Alumni Engagement Office on the importance of updating your contact information
By: Carolle de Ste-Croix (’90)

Alumni often ask me how they can support Mount Allison University and its students. Many are surprised when I say, “Keep your contact information up to date.”

By keeping alumni informed through e-newsletters, invitations to events, announcements on new academic programming and initiatives on campus, student success stories, and other news, we ensure that the alumni community stays engaged.

Why do we need engaged alumni?

From the University’s perspective, alumni engagement is valuable because it helps maintain Mount Allison’s reputation. Engaged alumni are more likely to give of their “time, treasure, talent and testimony.” And simply put, Mount Allison needs engaged alumni to offer their “time, treasure, talent and testimony” to be able to continue offering the best undergraduate experience in Canada.

  • Engaged alumni are more likely to give their time by attending and volunteering at events, as guest speakers, as mentors, and with their class activities.

  • Engaged alumni are more likely to financially (treasure) support the University and our students. Fundraising and sponsoring are important parts of alumni engagement, as we seek ways to increase student support funds.

  • Engaged alumni can share their talents and support current students with their career planning through alumni mentorships and coaching, and they can provide internships or offer job positions.

  • Engaged alumni are more likely to help us identify potential students through their testimony and increase recruitment of prospective students.

Alumni engagement is a mutually beneficial relationship that can help sustain and enhance Mount Allison’s impact. By staying engaged, you are fostering a sense of community and connection. Alumni bring valuable perspectives, experience, and expertise to our University, helping to shape our vision and direction, and engagement opportunities can provide you with valuable opportunities for personal and professional growth.

So how can you best support Mount Allison while also allowing us to support you?

Keep your contact information up to date, and most importantly, make sure the Alumni Engagement Office has your current email address.

Fortunately, this is an easy thing to do. Just fill out the update your contact information form and share it with friends and classmates with whom you think we might have lost touch.

As a bonus, anyone who fills out this form between March 9-31, 2023, will have their name entered into a draw for a treat bag full of Mount Allison Alumni swag! (You can participate even if your contact information is up to date).

Updating your contact information is a simple and important step in maintaining a connection with your alma mater.

Thank you for staying in touch.
