New programs and certificate options at Mount Allison
Mount Allison has approved a number of new and exciting programs in order to provide students with more options for either pursuing new major study areas, or increased learning opportunities, within their existing programs.
We have added three new interdisciplinary majors to the Bachelor of Arts degree: geocomputing, women’s and gender studies, and a combined degree in economics and computer science.
These programs all address real-world issues ranging from spatial aspects of social and environmental problems, the study of power using gender as a central category of analysis, and computational thinking to a rapidly changing economic landscape.
There will also be a new major and honours option for visual and material culture studies, biopsychology, and an honours Bachelor of Science (BSc) in computer science and physics for the fall (pending MPHEC approval).
Our new minors in data science, visual literacy and material culture, screen studies and popular culture, and community engaged learning allow students to add an additional interdisciplinary study area to their major program and thereby add depth to their degree programs.
Finally, we have added embedded certificates in data management, data analytics, foundations of health, theatre arts, Canadian arts and culture, and community engaged learning.
These certificates offer students an additional credential within their degree program and provide an area of focus to their elective requirements.
The faculty at Mount Allison are working hard to develop more choices and programming opportunities for students, so they can find meaningful pathways through their degree programs aligned to their desires and interests.
Building on our strong liberal arts tradition, we are creating programs that address contemporary issues and respond to the emerging questions in a rapidly changing world. New programs in development include a Bachelor of Arts and Science in Foundations of Health.
