Biography

Dr. Erin Steuter is a Professor of Sociology at Mount Allison University. She has won the Herbert and Leota Tucker Teaching Award at Mount Allison and the Association of Atlantic Universities’ Distinguished Teacher award. Erin seeks to develop discovery learning opportunities in her classes and enjoys designing "real world" assignments that help students make the transition to their future professions. Her research focuses on critical media studies and ideological representations in news and popular culture. She is the author of three successful books about the media and the war on terror including Pop Culture Goes to War: Enlisting and Resisting Militarism in the War on Terror and has recently published a graphic novel about Fake News. Her published research articles have appeared in Studies in Political Economy, Canadian Journal of Communication, Global Media Journal, Textual Studies in Canada, and Political Communication and Persuasion. In addition, Erin regularly offers workshops for schools and community groups that engage the public in contemporary media literacy issues.
