Mounties welcome soccer great Steven Caldwell to campus
The Mount Allison are hosting Steven Caldwell, former pro footballer with the Toronto Football Club and soccer analyst for TSN, on campus this week. Caldwell is visiting the team as part of a youth soccer camp.
Caldwell played as a professional footballer for 15 years in England’s two top leagues before playing with Toronto. He retired from playing in 2015 and now serves as director of corporate development at Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment as well as a soccer analyst for TSN.
“I think it’s important for kids to play at home in Canada. I work with a lot of soccer clubs in Ontario and soccer is growing every day,” says Caldwell. “It’s great to have a chance to do this and see another part of the country. This is my first time in New Brunswick.”
Mount Allison men’s soccer coach George Jenkins organized the visit.
"We’re excited to have Steven here to work with our team and other community groups,” he says. “It’s a great opportunity for our local players and coaches to meet and work with a former professional and sports analyst in their chosen sport.”
Caldwell will also be working with local soccer leagues and organizations from Sackville, Moncton, and Amherst as well as meeting with coaches as part of his Mount Allison visit.
