The Mounties: Brad Sanford

15 Feb 2016

Brad_mainSecond-year Commerce student and Basketball Mountie Brad Sanford's favourite part about basketball is that it's a team sport. He says playing with the Mounties has made his university experience just that much better.

“It’s the best of both worlds,” he says. "Sports are a great stress reliever while going to school. Exercising, feeling good about myself, and being part of a team; it’s just great to get out there and compete.”

Sanford began playing basketball in Quispamsis, NB at the age of six. He competed in Provincial U-16 and, in 2013, played on the Canada Summer Games team for New Brunswick in Sherbrooke, QC. His team enjoyed success that year with a fourth place finish — the province’s best finish since 2001.

“Canada Games has been for sure my best experience in basketball,” he says. “We placed fourth that year and surprised a lot of people.”

The 6’4” power forward/shooting guard had a career high 30 points recently in a blowout win vs Dal AC. That performance, along with strong efforts against Holland College and Crandall, earned him Athlete of the Week Honours at the end of January.
