Mount Allison’s Ron Joyce Presents Series welcomes Rick Colbourne, Sept. 27

RickColbourne_webSACKVILLE, NB — Award-winning educator, singer- songwriter, and Mount Allison alumnus Dr. Rick Colbourne will be on campus as this year’s Ron Joyce Presents speaker. Colbourne’s talk is titled: Playing it Unsafe: How Risk-taking Leads to Career Success. It will take place Wednesday, Sept. 27 in Crabtree Auditorium at 7 p.m. and is open to the public.

Dr. Rick Colbourne (Mount Allison Class of 1984) is an Algonquin from Mattawa, ON. Before becoming a business professor, he enjoyed a series of different careers. He counselled drug addicts, helped children with learning disabilities, toured across Canada as a singer-songwriter, and developed a digital platform for sharing music files.

“ýҕl pleased to welcome Rick Colbourne back to campus as a speaker for the Ron Joyce Presents Series,” says Sandy MacIver, director of Mount Allison’s Ron Joyce Centre for Business Studies. “His success as an academic, an entertainer, and in a number of other fields will provide an inspiring and interesting perspective for our students and community members. Rick’s talk and related group sessions are a wonderful addition to Mount Allison’s Year of Indigenous Action.”

Colbourne has taught at Capilano University, the University of Northern British Columbia, and Simon Fraser University. He was named the Fulbright Visiting Research Chair in Indigenous Entrepreneurship at the University of Arizona in 2016 through Fulbright Canada.

During his visit to campus, Colbourne will also meet with and hold workshops for Mount Allison faculty, students, as well as Indigenous high school students.

Colbourne’s visit is part of the University’s on campus.
