Position description
The successful candidates will provide daily cleaning services, event services, waste and recycling duties on campus as assigned. Work is performed according to established standards and frequencies, under minimal supervision, and successful candidates may work in teams. Custodians are expected to be knowledgeable of and work with a variety of cleaning products, chemicals, tools and equipment. They may enter private offices and spaces of others so a high level of trust, confidentiality and discretion is expected. Observation of the work area to identify and report any repair work, emergency situations and security risks is required. Hours of work and rate of pay will apply as per the CUPE 2338 collective agreement.
Qualifications/skills
The successful candidates will have a minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent and related experience. They must have strong interpersonal and communication skills, including fluency in English; integrity, dependability, tact and diplomacy are essential, along with the ability to maintain the required level of physical conditioning to perform duties. Ability to work as expected and in cooperation with administrators, faculty, students, co-workers, and other staff is required. They must be familiar with computer technology and the Microsoft Office applications. Demonstrated use of CSA-approved safety equipment and the ability to perform tasks related to assignments safely and efficiently are required. They must demonstrate professionalism and the ability to recognize and deal effectively with custodial problems. Proof of valid Criminal Record Check (CRC) and Vulnerable Sector Checks (VSC) is required.
